YouTube Channels for Slow Living Enthusiasts
1) TheCottageFairy (1.22M Subscribers)
Paola Merrill started her YouTube channel, TheCottageFairy, in March 2020. Here, she shares her struggles with anxiety and living in rural Washington state.
Part of her appeal, I believe, is that she keeps everything raw and real. The following paragraph from one of her YouTube Community posts is just one example:
I practically came out of the womb as an anxious child, while it did not manifest into negative behaviors until puberty, the predisposition and family history was there.
Many people in my family, including generations removed, have dealt with all manner of mental problems, including addiction, anxiety, schizophrenia, depression, and personality disorders. I think this was no doubt exacerbated with the stress of abusive households and the poverty many experienced until my grandmother and mother were able to fully step out of the cycle.
But the scars remained, and in a strange way despite being – at times – frustrated with myself, I take comfort in knowing I come from a long line of fighters that arrived in this world with hearts capable of great love and emotion, to the point it can be hard to handle.
Their stories brought me here. As I continue to navigate life with anxiety and improve drastically every year, I have started to see the beauty in being imperfect – while I never wanted to deal with a mind that manifests countless worries and panic attacks, I have so much more awareness and compassion for others, and am so grateful to live in a world that is starting to recognize the importance of brain health, knowing that too many of my ancestors were never given resources or knowledge to help themselves, and yet now I can heal not only for myself – but also for them.
I am drawn to her channel because I too have a family history rife with emotional turmoil and abuse. I can also relate to her living in a rural area. For her, it’s Washington. For me, it’s Wisconsin. I could go on and on with the things I can relate to with this channel, but I think it’s important to share more about her here than me.
Paola is also a watercolor painter. You can find her on Etsy here: TheCottageFairyArt.
She has a large following of adoring fans that she connects with on Instagram: The_Cottage_Fairy
And she is the author of a bestselling book:

2) Moss & Mirth (329 Subscribers)
I couldn’t find the name behind the channel, Moss & Mirth, but I love it nonetheless. After watching her plant an American Beautyberry and hug a moss-covered tree, I knew we could be fast friends. She also makes sourdough bread – which makes her my hero now.
This is what I got from Moss & Mirth’s About tab:
Welcome! This is a glimpse into my little hermitage. Slow living in an organic garden sanctuary hidden in the trees of a rainy forest, where I like to find coziness & happiness in the little things. I enjoy making videos on crafting, cooking, baking, gardening, and just cozy, magical moments here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. The videos are short and sweet, and follow my simple life through the seasons. Thanks for stopping by! 🙂
3) Little Boho Cottage (10.8K Subscribers)
Kate Callahan started her channel, Little Boho Cottage, in June 2022. She’s a professional photographer vlogging about her life in upstate New York.
I love that shares her experiences living alone in a tiny cottage with her dog, Charlie, and I’m not the only one evidenced by her channel growing so quickly.
She has a website: Kate Callahan Photography.
You can also follow her on Instagram @littlebohocottage and Facebook @ KateCallahanPhotography.
4) Darling Desi (284K Subscribers)
Darling Desi is simply delightful. Every time I watch her videos I smile and sometimes I cry because she’s so sweet. I can’t help myself from being transported back to a simpler time. She’s such a beautiful person who loves slow living, reading, and gifts. She’s transparent about her likes and dislikes. She’s confident and emotionally intelligent. She collects bedspreads, mugs, special editions of her favorite books, and pajamas. In my ideal life, I would be more like her.

Here’s a recent comment from one of her viewers:
I’m usually a silent watcher, but I can’t put into words how much these videos mean to me. I binge them regularly and if I don’t know what to do they’re a safe space. I have CFS/ME and when I can’t go outside and see the world (which is a lot of the time) this little universe is my comfort. Thank you❤ Happy new year from little me, in Norway ✨ ~ eiranergard1824

A comment from one of her followers:
Madisun, I’m so impressed with how you discovered at such a young age what it took me almost 50 years to discover. I started our family’s minimalist journey several years ago but recently found clutter creeping back in and my stress levels going back up. You have been such an inspiration to me and renewing my minimalist lifestyle. This time around I’m focusing on more than just my physical clutter. I’m including mental clutter as well. I’ve also decided to document my journey to share with others who would like to do the same. Thank you for inspiring me! ~ nicoleanelms4689
6) Poetry Of Slow Life (19.7K Subscribers)
Daria, of Poetry of Slow Life, describes herself as a cottage daydreamer living in the English countryside. Her channel is aptly named as her videos poetically portray her thoughts and surroundings.
I get lost in her language, lulled by the rhythm and soothed by the sights and sounds as she shares her journey through life.
If you go to her Instagram page, you’ll immediately discover that she loves dark academia, as I do: dariashew
Here is a comment from a follower of hers:
Dear Daria, your videos are so inspiring and aesthetically pleasing, I could watch them for hours on end. I really hope to one day be able to create videos as beautiful and calming as yours for my channel. Thank you so much for sharing those glimpses into your life with us and for making our dark autumn nights brighter with your presence! Much love 💕 ~ livelikeliz
